The book, Geographies of Nature: societies, environments, ecologies, by Steve Hinchcliffe redefined my thoughts about the environment and society's responsibility in helping shape the planet's future. This book helped me to question conventional understandings of nature. It helped me to think "outside the box". Geographies of Nature demonstrated for me how urgent and relevant science is in today's world. Science has a huge ability to impact the ways in which we approach environmental problems. This book presented a new kind of environmental analysis which refused to view nature as wholly separate from human practices. Societies, environments, and ecologies area particularly applicable to my field of study which is invasive species. The ideas in this book touch on many critical areas in my research such as the conservation of rare species, the use of herbicides and insecticides and their environmental impact, and invasive species control vs complete eradication. |

My father (papa) gave me his old camera for my high school graduation. I was touched by the gift because it had been his favorite for so many years. My father was an excellent photographer -- always taking black and white photos. What I love best about the images he takes is how much life he brings into the shot. My favorite shots taken by my father are shown below.
